Adding wording to an existing memorial

Adding wording to an existing memorial is usually a pretty straight forward process. If the planning was done correctly at the time the headstone was done originally, there should be room to add what is required. If for some reason their is no or little space to add what you would like, we may be able to re surface the granite removing the inscription and start fresh with a new polished surface. We are one of the few that can do this inhouse giving us much more flexibility and options.

We have had over 40 years experience in renovations and adding inscriptions to all manner of memorials so there isn’t much we don’t know about getting the work done to a high standard, If there are any concerns we’ll let you know before we start.

This will normally involve us uplifting the memorial and bringing it back to our factory to have a full refurbishment and an inscription drafted to match the existing layout.

There are several factors that will determine how the process is approached, these include:

1. Which company did the original inscription/layout, If Banks Memorials did the original, we will have the original layout and information in our database ready to go. Trying to match other companies work can be more time consuming but we do it regularly with excellent results.

2. How old the memorial is with regard to the overall condition of the headstone.

3. Whether the original inscription has been a computer generated layout or and older hand cut style.

Another important thing to know for Council operated cemeteries is who is the ‘Burial Rights Holder’ (BRH), or owner of the plot. This information is now required to obtain a council permit to allow us to do the work.
